The Sideboard

The sideboard is a place where many middle class families display their family portraits and photographs of the significant events in their lives. It is a place of pride and the photographs that are displayed there are precious. Being caught up and losing so much in the latest economic turmoil  has caused me to evaluate where I see myself and my family. Each day we are presented with economic challenges that must be overcome. Trying to make ends meet, we find ourselves frustrated at the difficulties we face. Blamed by others for falling into an economic minefield, our family had not  realized how bad it was until it was to late. Everything we  tried only made it worse. These photographs on my sideboard show the world that  I now inhabit. Displayed are the frustrations, struggles, and indignities experienced every day in the world of poverty.
